umBristol 11th July 2013

Tonight we hosted the local Umbraco meetup. We had around 25 Umbraco developers in attendance, apparently the largest Bristol meetup so far. The Bristol meetup, called umBristol, is organised by Lee Kelleher from Umbrella and developer of uComponents.

Tonight we hosted the local Umbraco meetup. We had around 25 Umbraco developers in attendance, apparently the largest Bristol meetup so far. I was particularly impressed that people had travelled from as far as way from London and Cardiff. The Bristol meetup, called umBristol, is organised by Lee Kelleher from Umbrella and developer of uComponents. The atmosphere was very relaxed and everyone was very welcoming, as you would expect from an Umbraco event. Also we ended up in the pub, again as you would expect from an Umbraco event. If your interested in Umbraco development or just .net development in general I recommend you turn up meet some great people, learn something new and get to exchange ideas over a beer afterwards.

The presentations given tonight:

  • Review of CodeGarden 13 - Belleumbraco.com and other news
  • How to secure your Umbraco sites
  • Deploying Umbraco to an Azure Website.
  • Demo on exploring the Umbraco releases archive.

I'd volunteered to do a talk, I wasn't sure on what, but following my last blog post on Brute force cracking the umbraco login, I thought that I should do some research on securing Umbraco sites. If you weren't able to make it here are my slides. Here was my fiddler script.

The scariest thing I'd discovered in my research was around http hosted forms which post to https. The data is transmitted securely, surely that makes it secure? Troy hunt does a great blog post on this which I robbed for my presentation.
