Opened in the last couple of weeks, Bagel Boy is the latest eatery within a mile radius of our offices here in St Nick's House.
The place has a young trendy vibe with a couple of bicycles strategically parked but without looking like they have been ridden. Service is friendly with orders taken on an I-pad, so modern. There must be about 30 different fillers for your bagel to choose from with everything from Smoked Salmon to their signature Salt Beef. We tried the Salt beef twice and found that buying early in the day meant the meat was that bit more succulent and we also had “finger boy” which are fish fingers with tartar sauce and mushy peas. Accompaniments include sweat potato wedges/strips, fries etc.
Cleverly, the boys have a license and on tap you have a small selection of local beers from Arbor as well as a selection of soft drinks and coffee from local roasters Little and Long.
The place is open until 12 and belies the connection with their other residence in Stokes Croft. We imagine that the tunes and beats will get really going in the evening and could easily include DJ sets and live bands. The premises was previously Tantric Jazz, so has a great history of live music and it would be great to see this continued.
We will endeavour to get to know the place better over the coming weeks and see how things develop.
