Fashion forward: Gibe helps UWE with new communications degree.

After working closely with the University of the West of England (UWE), Bristol, advising on digital marketing and web development, Gibe is pleased to announce from September 2015 that the UWE will be running a new degree in Fashion Communications. This inspiring course has been developed alongside ourselves and other industry experts.

On this interdisciplinary course, students will explore approaches towards communicating and promoting fashion. They will examine identity, sustainability, consumerism and global perspectives through projects involving the construction of images, film or text. They will also study and apply branding, market analysis and PR to creative work. As they progress, they will examine digital marketing strategies, future trends and technology's role in fashion. This is applied through project development, which can include online marketing campaigns, web development, promotional films or publications. During their final year, they will showcase their creativity and fashion knowledge through an extended independent design project.

We've designed, built and maintained award-winning fashion websites for brands including Quba & Co, Really Wild Clothing and the Pashley Collection. The team has a wealth of ecommerce retail experience in-house, with a background in fashion retail gained working both client- and agency-side, as well as in-depth knowledge of both ecommerce and digital marketing.

John Williams, Gibe’s Ecommerce Director said: “I was delighted to play our part in establishing this exciting new degree course. I believe it will offer talented students a valuable opportunity to study the essential aspects of communication and marketing within fashion and the wider retail market. The UWE, working closely with industry experts, has created a comprehensive vocational course that will form a strong foundation for a successful career in fashion”.

Anthony Wilkins, Senior Lecturer at UWE, Bristol said “John was a great help in the development of the new Fashion Communication course here at UWE, Bristol. John provided us with valuable information regarding industry standards, as well as what to include in projects specific to digital marketing.  The support and guidance we gained from working with John enabled the teaching team to further develop ideas and project outcomes, and we look forward to working with him in the future”
